I now know why other paintings may be found beneath paintings when modern x-ray/technology is used. I have gessoed over an entire underpainting and begun another completely new scene. Back to the beginning........altogether. If this one proves to not be to my liking or to start to feel onerous - I'll feel no compunction to do the same to it.
Having difficulty choosing a new reference piece - am choosing seemingly at random. Nothing is speaking to me right now. So I am just working mechanically. Blerg. Feels like work...............
